Malherbe warns against underestimating All Blacks scrum─── MORGAN PIEK 08:10 Tue, 02 Aug 2022
The Springbok tighthead prop, Frans Malherbe, has warned that the All Blacks can by no means be underestimated when these two teams battle it out on Saturday in Nelspruit in the Rugby Championship.
The World Cup-winner has downplayed the idea that New Zealand will be a walkover, despite the team from the Land of the Long White Cloud themselves having admitted that they're wounded and under pressure ahead of the Test.
The Springboks have long been regarded as arguably one of the best packs of forwards and with a team with a scrum that knows how to dominate the best.
The seasoned Malherbe said that if they underestimate the All Blacks upfront, they will be in for a long day at the office.
“I won't say that there are certain pointers that I can point out, but the one thing I can say is that it's still the All Black scrum,” Malherbe said.
“It will always be good - I don't know what more I can say about them - but the one thing I can say is that if you underestimate them, you'll be in big trouble.
“The All Black scrum is still proper and I don't think it has any shortcomings or anything that's missing."
“The mental job is also to focus on the job and your job in the preparation. That helps a lot with the mental preparation because you know that you've done your prep and you're working on your game and improvements to get better.
“You get a lot of comfort going into the game knowing that you did your prep and you put the work in.”
Saturday’s Test between the Springboks and All Blacks at the Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
