The pressure is on the Springboks this week─── MORGAN PIEK 07:35 Mon, 22 Aug 2022
The pressure will be on the Springboks this week as they attempt to earn their first win over the Wallabies in Australia in nine years.
The World Champions arrived in Adelaide on Saturday after their flight on Thursday was delayed by more than half a day.
The Boks immediately went for a flush out session as their first week of prep was significantly cut short.
While the Springboks managed to edge the All Blacks down-under last year there haven’t been able to be the host on their own soil since 2013.
The Springboks last win in Australia was on 7 September 2013 when they beat the Wallabies 38-12 at Lang Park in Brisbane.
The only players that players that played in that Test and who are still playing for the Springboks are Willie le Roux, Duane Vermeulen, Eben Etzebeth and the captain, Siya Kolisi.
Both teams go into the Test on the back of defeats after the All Blacks beat the Springboks 35-23, while the Pumas beat the Wallabies 48-17.
The Springboks will name their team on Monday and it isn’t expected that too much will change.
In the backline, Warrick Gelant, could start on the right-wing for the Test, while in the pack, Jasper Wiese, could return to the number eight jersey with the seasoned Vermeulen moving to the bench.
Jacques Nienaber will name his team at 11:30 on Monday (SA time), and Saturday’s Test at the Adelaide Oval kicks off at 7:30 am.
