Blitzboks target a fast start at LA Sevens─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Fri, 26 Aug 2022
The Blitzboks are expecting it to go down to the wire this weekend during the season-ending LA Sevens in Los Angeles.
The Springboks Sevens are on course to defend their Sevens World Series title, in order to ensure this, they will have to go all the way.
South Africa tops the log on 124 points but Australia and Argentina are breathing down their necks with 122 and 118 points respectively.
The Springboks Sevens have a tough draw being in a pool along with the USA, New Zealand and Canada.
The coach, Neil Powell, said a good start will be imperative.
“We will focus on one match at a time and for us that is the opening pool game against the USA,” Powell said.
“Yes, it is a very tough pool, starting with America, then Canada and then New Zealand, they are three tough teams, who all play totally different from each other and can beat any team on any day.
“America will be tough in front of their home crowd, but we always target the first game to set the standard.”
The Blitzboks face the USA at 18:20 on Saturday night in the opening game.
