The fired up Springboks returned to winning in the Rugby Championship with a well-deserved 24-8 win over the Wallabies in Sydney on Saturday.

The bonus-point victory meant that the world champions broke their hoodoo Down Under with their first win over the Wallabies on their home soil since 2013, while it was also their first triumph in Sydney since 1993.

A 10th minute try by the centre, Damian de Allende, got South Africa to a flying start, while a brilliant try by Canan Moodie was the perfect start to his international career.

The teenager's try meant that the Springboks led the crucial Test 12-3 at the half-time break.

An early strike by the flanker, Franco Mostert, at the start of the second stanza put the game out of reach for the Wallabies, however, Makazole Mapimpi's 71st minute try sealed the deal for the Boks.

The moment was bitter-sweet as Mapimpi received a yellow card for inciting a scuffle after scoring.

An 80th minute consolation try by Pete Samu was too little, too late for the home team.

Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, felt that his chargers made a big step-up in intensity - something that which let them down last week in Adelaide.

Earlier on Saturday the All Blacks thumped Argentina 53-3 at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton. The bonus point win means that New Zealand now leads the standings on 10 points, while Australia, South Africa and Argentina all have 9 points.

Scorers:

Wallabies: Try – Pete Samu Pen. - Noah Lolesio

Springboks: Tries – Damian de Allende, Canan Moodie, Franco Mostert, Makazole Mapimpi Conv. – Damian Willemse, Frans Steyn
