Blitzboks to face Chile in World Cup opener─── MORGAN PIEK 14:10 Fri, 09 Sep 2022
Chile will face the Springboks Sevens team in the round of 16 at the Sevens World Cup in Cape Town. On Friday morning in the pre-round of 16 qualifiers, the Chileans beat Germany 16-13 after extra time.
This match ended 13-all after full-time and the South Americans scored a penalty in extra time for the golden point to earn their spot into the next round.
Meanwhile, the Springboks Sevens captain, Siviwe Soyizwapi, said they want to emulate the success of the 15’s Springboks.
“It would be massive. It would be amazing for South African rugby and it would be great for the nation as well,” said Soyizwapi.
“We all know what sport can do for our country but, again, we are fully focused on ourselves as a team and the performance we want to bring this weekend.”
At 18:35 on Friday evening the Springbok Women will face France in their first game, while the Blitzboks tackle Chile at 19:03.
