Blitzboks advance to the semi-finals─── KAYLA BARKER 14:22 Sun, 11 Dec 2022
A successful day 2 of the HSBC Cape Town Sevens for the Blitzboks sees them continuing their tournament campaign by advancing to the semi-finals against Samoa today.
The Springbok Sevens took on Fiji and France on Saturday, the 10th of December, to conclude their pool games in the HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament. Securing wins against both opponents, the Blitzboks advanced to the quarter-finals against Great Britain and with another win are set to play in the semi-finals today.
Yesterday at 11:19, the Blitzboks faced Fiji knowing a tough opponent was at hand. An impressive 17-7 win put South Africa at the top of pool A, 2 points ahead of both Fiji and France.
Later, another dominant 26-7 win for South Africa against France sent the Blitzboks into the quarter-finals. The first half ended on a 12-7 lead to the Blitzboks with an opening try from Muller du Plessis followed by another try by Davlon Blood leading into half time. The second half saw an impressive performance by Shilton van Wyk with 2 tries leading the team to their 26-7 win.
Entering into their quarter-final unbeaten and full of confidence, they managed to trump Great Britain 21-14. With tries from Ryan Oosthuizen, Ricardo Duartee and a late try from Davlon taking the score from a 14 all draw to their 21-14 win secured the Blitzboks spot in the semi-finals.
The Cape Town Sevens title has eluded the Blitzboks since 2015 and with their entrance into the semi-finals, the Springbok Sevens are one step closer to claiming a home ground victory.
The Blitzboks are set to face Samoa in their semi-final clash today, the 11th of December, at 15:45.
