Libbok set to miss the Clermont clash─── MORGAN PIEK 07:37 Mon, 16 Jan 2023
The Springbok and Stormers flyhalf, Manie Libbok, is set to miss this week's all-important European Champions Cup fixture against Clermont in Cape Town.
On Sunday, the versatile Springbok playmaker left the park at the Brentford Community Stadium with a concussion during the hard-fought 28-14 win over the 13-man London Irish.
The news from the team is that Libbok will have to continue with the concussion protocol this week.
The Stormers coach, John Dobson, said they have enough cover in the number 10 jersey for this week's match.
"Manie got a knock to his head and failed his HIA (head injury assessment)," said Dobson after the match in West London.
"There was a joke that he failed the 'language test', but it’s a concussion, and he’ll have to go through the whole protocol now.
"We’ve got options at 10 for the match against Clermont. We had trained Sacha Mngomezulu at 15 and 12 for this game, so it was probably a mistake to put him straight on at 10 on my part.
"But obviously Sacha is an option at 10, as is Damian Willemse, as are Jean-Luc du Plessis and Kade Wolhuter. So, we’ll be fine there."
The Stormers will need at least one point from their match against the French Top 14 team in order to join the Sharks in the playoffs.
Saturday's game at the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point kicks off at 19:30.
