Cricket South Africa has officially named Shukri Conrad and Rob Walter as the new Proteas head coaches.

The pair will replace the former Proteas wicketkeeper, Mark Boucher, who stepped down after last year's T20 World Cup in Australia.

The CSA Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, feels that the pair are the right men for the job.

“Their leadership is very strong and they are clear in their minds about how to move South African cricket forward," said Nkwe.

“Not just the national teams, but also our whole domestic system.

“The 2027 World Cup is a must-win and we need to build the systems to be successful there. That will be our big focus in limited overs cricket.”

The Proteas will be in action in a three-match ODI series against the world champions, England, in Bloemfontein and Kimberley in the coming weeks.

Nkwe added that Walter will not be in charge of the team yet, as and interim coach will oversee the series against the England.

“There will be a special arrangement in place for the England series, but that will be announced when the squad is announced later this week.

“We'll confirm everything this week, but Rob will be involved when it comes to selection and creating a bit of clarity. He'll have an opportunity to meet the team next month in person and dig deeper into the detail.”

The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
