Cheetahs to focus on improving before Toulon─── MORGAN PIEK 16:00 Tue, 24 Jan 2023
The Springbok scrumhalf and former Toyota Cheetahs captain, Ruan Pienaar, believes that the team will have to make a step-up if they are to beat Toulon in the round of 16 in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
On Sunday, the Cheetahs booked a date with the French giants after beating Section Paloise in Parma to qualify for the knockout round.
Pienaar, who missed the match through injury, told OFM Sport that there are things to work on in the coming months.
"I think both teams were pretty nervous and not willing to take too many chances," said the seasoned Pienaar.
"But, we got the job done and we wanted to get through to the last 16, and we managed to do that.
"The guys know that a lot of improvements will have to be made before we head over to Toulon.
"But for now, the job is done, and I think everyone will be happy to have done it, but like I said, there will need to be a marked improvement.
"I'm sure that everyone will work hard to make that happen."
Toulon and the Cheetahs will battle it out on the weekend of 31 March to 2 April at Stade Mayol.
The Cheetahs are enjoying a well-deserved break and will regroup in Bloemfontein on 6 February. The team will also turn their attention to the Currie Cup which will see the Cheetahs playing away to the Griquas (Kimberley) and Griffons (Welkom) during the first two rounds.
