The University of the Free State Shimlas will want to build on their momentum on Monday evening when they tackle the University of Cape Town Ikeys in round four of the Varsity Cup in the Mother City.
The Shimlas returned to winning ways last week with a hard-fought 26-25 over Wits in Bloemfontein, while the Ikeys in turn stumbled to a 43-24 defeat against UJ in Johannesburg.
The Shimlas coach, André Tredoux, told OFM Sport that they had a special visit from a Free State and Springbok legend in the build up to the game.
“The Ikey Tigers on the Green Mile will never be easy, but the boys have prepared well,” said Tredoux.
“There was a lot of good chats during the week and there was a great visit by Andre Venter. He left a few sterling nuggets and the boys are amped to play well.
“Varsity Cup 2023 is really tough competition as all eight teams can still win it. The boys want to lay down a really good marker on Monday evening.”
Monday evening’s game at the Green Mile kicks off at 19:00. At the same time, Tuks face the North West University Eagles in Pretoria, while Wits are at home to Maties.
