The Toyota Cheetahs have received some welcome news regarding the injury to the hard-working loose-forward, Friedle Olivier.

Olivier is set to be fit and ready for the second half of the Currie Cup following the ankle injury he picked up against the Griffons in Welkom.

The player was expected to undergo surgery to repair the damage, however, Olivier told OFM Sport that he received some good news yesterday.

“It was quite a setback for me, I was just getting into nice form for the game against Toulon, said Olivier.

“When that injury happened and I wasn't able to make the touring squad it was a setback for me and I was quite devastated.

“Luckily, I saw the specialist on Tuesday again, the swelling has settled nicely. Everything is positive and I don't need to undergone surgery. Even though that small ligament in my ankle is off, I can go without it.

“My ankle is stable and now it's just about going through a return-to-play protocol. We have been doing rehab for the past three weeks and all has been going well.

“Hopefully I will be back for the first game of the second half of the Currie Cup.”

Meanwhile, the flyhalf Siya Masuku and tighthead prop Aranos Coetzee could make their return from injury against Western Province in Cape Town on Saturday. The pair have been training for some time now and are set for a welcome return to the park.

Saturday’s game between Province and the Cheetahs at the Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
