The Toyota Cheetahs centre, Robert Ebersohn, is set to play in his 100th game for the team on Saturday when they host Western Province in the Currie Cup in Bloemfontein.

Ebersohn made his debut for the Cheetahs back in 2008 at the age of 19. In 2013 Ebersohn pursued his career in France where he played in over 160 games for Montpellier (54), Castres (97) and Béziers (24).

Ebersohn has in fact played in over 150 games for the Cheetahs, however, 58 of these were SuperRugby games when the Griffons and Griquas still formed part of the team. Ebersohn’s milestone he will be hoping to achieve, will be a ton of matches for the Free State union itself.

The 34-year-old re-joined the Cheetahs in 2021 and told OFM Sport that he is living his childhood dream.

“Last weekend against the Griffons I played in my 99th game for the Cheetahs, so if I get selected for this week it will be my 100th game, said the seasoned midfielder.

“I played in 58 Super Rugby games for the Cheetahs, but this will be 100 games for the Free State union.

“It will be a very special moment for me if I get to play.

“In life, there are some things that happen which are very special. For me, this is special because this is my childhood dream.

“I still remember the day when my dad took my brother (Sias Ebersohn) and myself to the stadium to watch our first Cheetahs game. I also still remember the first game I played at the stadium. We played in an under-13 curtain for the Cheetahs, and we played barefoot. I also still remember my Currie Cup debut for the Cheetahs.

“This has been a childhood dream for me. When you get older, your goals and what you want out of life change, but you will also remember what you wanted as a kid, and this is what I wanted as a young boy.

“I'm very honoured, privileged and excited to reach this milestone and be able to share this with my family.”

Ebersohn has also represented the Blitzboks and was in a Springbok training group as well. As a youngster, he also represented the Junior Springboks in ten Tests.

Meanwhile, the Cheetahs' captain, Victor Sekekete, is set to play in his 50th game for the team on the weekend. That is if he gets selected as well.

Saturday’s game between the Cheetahs and Province at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 15:05.
