They have made it through to the quarter-finals despite their disappointing tournament opener against France. 

This afternoon’s game against the US was a must win for South Africa if they wanted to make the playoffs. Another factor that needed considering was how Fiji would fare against France. A 24-7 win to the Blitzbokke against the USA and a 24-21 win to France over Fiji was just the right combination to assure the Blitzboks their quarter-finals position. 

Securing four tries, it was clear that the Blitzboks had their attack under control. The opening try was pursued and claimed within the first minute of the game, from the first line-out, by Ronald Brown. 

The Americans were however very determined to not leave it at that and so, with a try from Malacci Esdale and a conversion from Steve Tomasin the USA led the charge into halftime 7 points to 5. 

The second half finished strongly on South Africa’s side with the Blitzbokke chasing and securing 3 more tries to reach their final score of 24. Christie Grobbelaar, Dewald Human and Shaun Williams respectively did their part for the side and with Human converting two of the tries victory was earned. 

The Blitzboks are now set to face Argentina in the cup quarter-final on Saturday evening at 19:05.
