Griquas trying to hold on to Specman─── MORGAN PIEK 07:37 Tue, 30 May 2023
The Griquas will seek to retain the services of the fleet-footed winger Rosko Specman going forward. The seasoned outside back has been linked with a possible return to the Springbok Sevens as they attempted to bolster their squad.
Last week it was reported that the Blitzboks sent an offer to Specman to head back to Stellenbosch.
“We have an agreement with Western Province to make use of utility back Tristan Leyds, and have made Rosko Specman, who is currently at Griquas, an offer to return to the sevens setup. He would bring massive energy to the team,” said SA Rugby Sevens High-performance Manager Marius Schoeman in an interview with BokSquad.
Speaking to OFM Sport before the weekend’s 29-29 draw against the Cheetahs, the Griquas coach, Pieter Bergh, said they want to hold on to the 34-year-old player.
“He has been on the Blitzboks radar since he joined the Griquas,” said Bergh.
“He hasn't signed anything with them and I don't even know if he has gotten an offer from them.
“I've spoken to his agent and we will try our best to keep him. He is an important player in our team and they are obviously under pressure to get players back because of how their season panned out.
“In the media they made is sound like he is already going there, be we are going to try our best to keep him.”
On Friday at 15:00 the Griquas will host Western Province in Kimberley in the penultimate round of the Currie Cup before the playoffs.
