Maartens and Mafura knowlegde will be handy─── MORGAN PIEK 07:39 Thu, 01 Jun 2023
The Toyota Cheetahs will be banking on the knowledge of Daniel Maartens and Tapiwa Mafura for Saturday’s Currie Cup game against the Pumas in Nelspruit.
The Cheetahs will target a first win over the Currie Cup champions in four games in order to book a place in the semi-finals.
Maartens and Mafura played in the Currie Cup final for the Pumas last year and they will have some insight into the team from the Lowveld.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that their knowledge will be handy.
“It's sort of the same for both teams - they have Cameron Dawson and Brandon Thomson that were at us and they are both playing for the Pumas now,” said Fourie.
“But, that knowledge of Daniel and Taps will definitely help us. We know what to expect from them.
“The Pumas are a dangerous side, especially from turnovers. They like to keep the ball alive, they have a good kicking game and they have a very good defensive system.
“It's going to be a good challenge, but we are up for it.”
The Cheetahs will be naming their team for the crucial game against the Currie Cup champions on Thursday.
Saturday’s game at the Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 17:00.
