Louw cleared to play in Currie Cup semi-final─── MORGAN PIEK 16:18 Thu, 15 Jun 2023
The Springbok loose-forward, Elrigh Louw, is available to play for the Bulls in Saturday’s Currie Cup final against the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
Louw was red carded in the 37th minute of last week’s round-robin match against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld after charging into the ruck with tucked elbow. The player made contact to the head of the Cheetahs flanker Sibabalo Qoma with reasonable force and no mitigating factors.
After a lengthy TMO review he was issued a red card by the referee AJ Jacobs.
Louw appeared before a disciplinary committee during the week and his red card was rescinded. The was downgraded to a yellow card instead.
The Bulls released statement on Thursday afternoon confirming that Louw is available for the Currie Cup semi-final.
“Bulls forward, Elrigh Louw has had his red card rescinded, which was issued in round 14 of the 2023 Currie Cup campaign. The red has now been replaced with a yellow card after a hearing was held - earlier in the week - with the player and representatives appearing before an SA Rugby committee.
“Louw was shown red at minute 37 of the clash against the Toyota Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday. He is (now) subsequently available for selection for this weekend’s semi-final clash, against the same team, which will be played in Bloemfontein on Saturday 17, June 2023.”
Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final between the Cheetahs and Bulls at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
