Cheetahs to up the intensity against the Force─── MORGAN PIEK 16:24 Thu, 05 Oct 2023
“The EPCR Challenge Cup is the big thing for us and besides Saturday’s match, we have two more warm-up games to prepare, so we’ve got to use the game time we have well.”
The Toyota Cheetahs will look to lift the intensity when they lock-horns with the Western Force in Claremont on Saturday in what will be the fourth and final game of the Toyota Challenge.
Last week the Force edged the Cheetahs 30-27 in Mandurah in a game where the Cheetahs were penalised heavily in the second half.
The Cheetahs will clinch the series with a win after winning both of their games against the Australian Super Rugby franchise in Bloemfontein.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that they are better acclimatised and they have had a good week of training, but it’s a matter of learning the lesson and put that in place as they build towards Europe.
“I felt that we didn’t start well and we fought back in the last 15 minutes before half time,” said Fourie.
“There were a few strange decisions in the second half, and we lost our cool which resulted in 15 penalties, two yellow cards, and a free kick.
“It was difficult to recover from that, so this week we spoke a lot about what we can control and what we can do in a similar situation.
“The EPCR Challenge Cup is the big thing for us and besides Saturday’s match, we have two more warm-up games to prepare, so we’ve got to use the game time we have well.
“We had a good training week and decided to select the best available team. We want to win this one and do it well.”
Saturday’s game between the Force and Cheetahs in Claremont kicks off at 9:00.
