The Springboks scrumhalf Faf de Klerk is relishing the possibility of going head-to-head against Antoine Dupont in Sunday’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final against France.

The two-time world Player of the Year and French captain has been given the all-clear to play again this weekend after sustaining a facial fracture against Namibia.

Dupont certainly brings a different dynamic to the French team and he will be a handful if he gets to play.

De Klerk said while Dupont is a great player, the focus is on their opponents and a collective.

“He’s a great player and he gives the team a lot of confidence. But it doesn’t affect us he if plays or doesn’t,” said De Klerk.

“We prepare to face the team, not individuals. That said, for me personally, it’s always good to face the world’s best.”

The 2019 World Cup-winner added that being able to adapt on the day will be an important aspect on the day, especially against a team like France who a as unpredictable as the could and will be playing in front of their passionate home support.

“As a team we can go back our traditional way of doing things if needs be, but we have also added additional plays to our game which we can bank on.

“So, it will go down to what is needed on the day. As a team we are in a lucky position in that regard.”

Sunday’s quarter-final between France and the Springboks in Paris kicks off at 21:00.
