Titus on debut for the Griquas─── MORGAN PIEK 14:06 Thu, 09 Nov 2023
“For a lot of players when they get here, it's still rough and tough here in Kimberley and it's a bit warmer than it might be in Cape Town, Johannesburg or in Durban, and it's about the guys getting a bit tougher.”
The Griquas have made a few changes to their team for Saturday’s Airlink Cup second round game against the Griffons in Potchefstroom.
Last week the Peacock Blues opened their campaign with a 21-19 win against the Pumas in Welkom, while the Griffons in turn will also be confident after they managed to beat the Leopards 40-20.
One change in the Griquas backline sees the former Maties player, Marcqiewn Titus, making his debut on the right wing.
The Griquas assistant coach, Franco van der Merwe, told OFM Sport that it's a good opportunity for the young flyer.
“Marqiewn is a promising young player and I think that one thing we've had with the players for a long time now is to give players an opportunity,” said the former Springboks and Lions lock.
“For a lot of players when they get here, it's still rough and tough here in Kimberley and it's a bit warmer than it might be in Cape Town, Johannesburg or in Durban, and it's about the guys getting a bit tougher.
“For him to get an opportunity this week is good - he will learn a lot. He has shown a lot of promise and talent and that's why we are giving him a chance against the Griffons.”
Saturday's game kicks off at 13:00, while at 15:00 the Leopards will take the Pumas.
