The Springbok Sevens team will be looking to break their 8 year drought on home soil by winning the Cape Town leg of the HSBC Sevens Series as well as following up last week’s victory in Dubai with another victory this week.

This morning's game got off to a slow and rocky start for the Blitzboks as they made uncharacteristic errors giving Great Britain a chance to level the scoring at 5 all just before half-time.

Quewin Nortje opened the scoring for the Blitzboks and Great Britain’s Harry Glover scored a try just before the break.

The Blitzboks came back fighting in the second half with a try straight away from Justin Geduld as well as a conversion. Shortly after, Quewin Nortje scored his second try of the game. Followed by a conversion from Ronald Brown, the Blitzboks quickly climbed to their 19-5 lead over Great Britain.

After a good opening performance, the Blitzboks will need to keep the pace and discipline to push through the day. This first game saw them shake off their nerves and will hopefully take them steadily into their second game of the day.

The Springbok Sevens will next take on the USA at 2.18pm on Saturday afternoon.
