“Sbu is a quality player and he made his name when he came through the ranks at the Sharks and then obviously at the Boks.”

The Springbok winger, Sbu Nkosi, has reported for duty at the Toyota Cheetahs as he attempts to revive his once promising career.

The 28-year-old has been in the rugby wilderness after leaving the Bulls following his well-documented mental health issues, but he now has another good opportunity revive his career after signing a one-year deal with the Cheetahs.

He has played in 16 Tests for the Springboks in the past and in those he managed to score nine tries. In addition, has represented the Junior Springboks on three occasions in 2016.

The assistant coach, Charl Strydom, previously told OFM Sport that the Cheetahs is a place where players can revive their careers.

“Sbu is a quality player and he made his name when he came through the ranks at the Sharks and then obviously at the Boks,” said Strydom.

He's a really physical player and he is quick. We look forward to having him in the squad and to see what he can do.

“There have been so many players that have been able revive their careers back here at the 'States',” Strydom added.

“It's a place where some players pick up their careers again after some disappointments. It's always been a case of players being able to get a new lease on their careers when they get here.

“Hopefully, we can help reach his potential again, because there is no doubt that he has got the pedigree.”

Nkosi could be in action for the Cheetahs as soon as 9 March when they tackle the Griquas in a warm-up game. The match that will be played in Jacobsdal forms part of their preparations for the upcoming SA Cup.
