The Northern Cape’s Currie Cup team, the Griquas has a new title sponsor. Suzuki was announced as the new sponsor of the team from Kimberley for the next three years.
From the 22nd of March, the team will be known as the Suzuki Griquas and their home turf will be Suzuki Stadium. Chairman of the Board, André Markgraaff, made the announcement last night at a sponsorship function in Kimberley.
In his address, Markgraaff said that Japan is known as a nation renowned for its rich cultural heritage, precision and discipline; the same qualities that Griquas Rugby has displayed over the years.
Representatives from Suzuki, including managing director of Suzuki Auto South Africa, Teruo Katakwawa, was given a taste of what to expect from their new investment, including open fires, a traditional braai, as well as entertainment by Karoo and Jan Rhaap.
Katakwawa said there were many similarities between Griquas and Suzuki, which made them an ideal fit.
“Just like the Griquas, the Suzuki brand started from humble beginnings and through passion, hard work, and continuous improvement, became a key player in the industry whilst remaining true to its core values and identity,” he said.
Griquas Chief Executive Officer, Arni van Rooyen, told guests that they were proud to welcome Suzuki to the Griquas family.
“This partnership not only represents the next step in their journey from a small vehicle supplier to a Top 3 brand in South Africa, but it also symbolises their commitment to South Africa and to supporting and developing its people.”
