“It’s not nice, but at the same time, injuries are a thing that happen in rugby. It's a physical sport and injuries are bound to happen.”

The Toyota Cheetahs centre, Ali Mgijima, is hoping to be back in action sooner rather than later following a few weeks on the sidelines with an injury.

The Cheetahs currently have 20 players recovering from injuries while three players are representing the Ospreys in the United Rugby Championship.

This translates to 23 players unavailable for selection and this is literally an entire match day squad.

Mgijima, who was in outstanding form before sustaining a groin injury told OFM Sport that is frustrating.

“It's not nice being outside of the field as I'm there watching the guy’s train,” said Mgijima.

“Sometimes it not nice, but at the same time, injuries are a thing that happen in rugby. It's a physical sport and injuries are bound to happen.

“I'm looking forward and itching to get back on the field. Hopefully the management team can clear me in due time.”

The Cheetahs did receive a handful of Shimlas players this week at the conclusion of the Varsity Cup,  but they will only come into contention as from next week. They cannot touch the CUT Ixias players at this stage either as they have to wait for the team to play in their Varsity Cuo promotion-relegation game.

Victor Sekekete, Jeandré Rudolph and Evardi Boshoff are at the Ospreys, while Tapiwa Mafura is ill.

The players who are not available due to injury are: Rynier Bernardo, Banie Britz, Ruben de Haas, Reinhardt Fortuin, Cohen Jasper, Daniel Maartens, Thabang Mahlasi, Ali Mgijima, Oupa Mohoje, Banele Mthenjane, Litha Nkula, Andisa Ntsila, Reagan Oranje, Ruan Pienaar, Gideon van der Merwe, Marnus van der Merwe, Hencus van Wyk, Laurence Victor, Carl Wegner, Siba Xamlashe

Meanwhile, on Saturday at 15:00 the SWD Eagles will host the Cheetahs at Outeniqua Park in George in round six of the SA Cup.
