Sharks winger Werner Kok celebrated his 50th cap for the team from Durban in style with a hat-trick against Scarlets in last night’s United Rugby Championship (URC) clash.

It was a back-and-forth affair with Kok scoring the opening try, before hooker Ryan Elias replied for the home side.  Springbok prop Vincent Koch was next to score for the Sharks, but Scarlets’ opposite number Kemsley Mathias matched his try.  Sharks finished the first half with a slim 17 – 13 lead.

In the second half, Kok twice gathered cross-field kicks by Siya Masuku to score two more tries and secure a bonus point for the South African team. Scarlets centre Ioan Nicholas managed to score late for the home-side, but it wasn’t enough to a secure a victory for the hosts.

Sharks fly-half Siya Masuku succeed with three conversions and two penalties, but it was his tactical kicking that earned him the Man of the Match title.

The win will boost the confidence of the Sharks who will be in action next weekend in the European Challenge Cup semi-final, when they will take on Clermont at Twickenham.
