“We’re going there to win this one and we don’t look back at games. We try to fix the stuff that went wrong and see where we’re going from here. We’re definitely looking forward to this encounter and it’s going to be a nice one.”

The Pumas won’t dwell on the past in the lead-up to their SA Cup final against the Suzuki Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday.

The last times these two teams met, the Griquas came from behind to beat the Pumas 31-26 in Kimberley.

The Griquas are the form team in the competition and they have had an unbeaten year with 12 wins on the bounce including their warm-up matches.

‘They’re a well-oiled team’

The Pumas coach, Jimmy Stonehouse, told OFM Sport that it’s a matter of focusing on this week’s challenge.

“We’re going down to Kimberley to play a team that’s out-and-out favourites,” said Stonehouse.

“They beat us down there in Kimberley earlier in the competition and like you said, they’re a well-oiled team. They only lost two players out of their Currie Cup from last year.

They’ve got a lot of experience and out-and-out favourites’

“We lost 15 players, so for us, that’s a great achievement playing in this final, starting with a new bunch of players. But we still have a lot to achieve.

“Now they’re also loaded with a lot of Western Promise Stormers guys that also played United Rugby Championship games. They’ve got a lot of experience and out-and-out favourites for this game.

“On the day of a final, everything can go for other teams as well.

‘It’s going to be a nice one.’

“We’re going there to win this one and we don’t look back at games. We try to fix the stuff that went wrong and see where we’re going from here. We’re definitely looking forward to this encounter and it’s going to be a nice one.”

Saturday’s final between the Griquas and Pumas at the Suzuki Stadium kicks off at 12:30.
