The Springboks will bolster certain positions for the Wales Test in London if the Bulls lose their United Rugby Championship semi-final against Leinster in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Springboks are in Pretoria where they are busy preparing for the one-off Test against the Welsh.

Celimpilo Gumede is the only current Bulls in the Springbok squad. None of the other Bulls have been named in the Bok camp due to their URC playoffs, but should they lose to Leinster a few seasoned players could board the fight to Cardiff on Wednesday.

The Springbok coach, Rassie Erasmus, only a select few Bulls could get named in the Wales squad and only if the need arises.

“In certain positions, we'll have a few young guys next to each other and we've already got a few injuries in the outside backs with the wingers.

“Cheslin Kolbe is touch and go, Makazole Mapimpi is fine, and we might be thin there. We've got Quan Horn and Aphelele Fassi, but a guy like Willie le Roux might be someone who can just help settle down the combinations there.

“So, it'll depend on how the guys are on Friday in training or if we have injuries, but it wouldn't be ideal for them to just have three training sessions and play a Test match against Wales.”

Saturday’s semi-final between the Bulls and Leinster at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 16:00.
