It was heartbreak for the Bulls at a sold-out Loftus Versfeld as they went down to the Glasgow Warriors 21 – 16 in a thrilling URC 2024 final.

The Bulls started out strongly with Johan Goosen converting two penalties within the first 15 minutes of the game.  When flanker Marco van Staden scored in the 24th minute, it looked like the Bulls were going to be tough to beat on their home ground.  Leading by 13 – 0, Glasgow’s Scot Cummings scored in extra time to narrow the gap to 13 – 7 at half-time.

At the start of the second half, Goosen stretched the lead with another penalty, but thereafter it was all Glasgow. George Turner scored in the 53rd minute and George Horne converted yet again, putting the visitors within spitting distance of the Bulls at 16 – 14.

Glasgow dominated territory in the second half and a try by Huw Jones with around 20 minutes to go put Glasgow in front by 21 points to 16.  Glasgow had more chances to add points to their tally, but Horne missed the penalty in the last ten minutes.

There was a little glimmer of hope for the Bulls when the Warriors’ Tom Jordan was sent off with a yellow card, but the Bulls could not capitalise, resulting in Glasgow’s second championship and the first major title for the club since 2015.
