England now prepare to face world champions South Africa at Twickenham next Saturday, while Australia play Wales on Sunday.

A last-gasp try by Australia secured the win for the men from down under against England at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening. The Wallabies’ replacement Max Jorgensen scored a superb try in the game’s dying minutes to give the visitors a 42-37 victory over the hosts.

Spectators were treated to 10 tries in the match with the lead changing hands four times in the final 15 minutes.

England drew first blood with a try by Chandler Cunningham-South. Seven minutes later the flanker got his second, but shortly after England lost flanker Tom Curry, knocked out by a knee to the head while making a tackle.

It allowed the Wallabies to build pressure and the recruit Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii (21) was there to set up their opening try, with Harry Wilson scoring Australia’s second try a few minutes later. Noah Lolesio then popped over a penalty and suddenly Australia was 20-18 ahead at halftime.

Australia started the second half strongly with lock Jeremy Williams touching down in the corner for their third try. England, however, quickly closed the gap with a first international try for replacement wing Ollie Sleightholme. They then edged ahead with Sleightholme’s second try and it was 30-28 with 10 minutes to go.

‘England now have lost six of their ten matches this season’

It was then Australia’s turn to score again with winger Andrew Kellaway who went over the whitewash and Ben Donaldson converting for a two-point lead.

England hit straight back though, when Maro Itoje scored in the 78th minute. But, in the match's final play, four minutes into the red, Jorgensen dashed the hopes of the England faithful and secured the win for Australia.

England now have lost six of their ten matches this season, including each of their past four. It is their worst run of results since 2018. But things will not get easier for England as they will have to face South Africa at Twickenham next Saturday. Australia will play Wales next Sunday.
