Things started badly for the Stormers in the second half, when loose forward Willie Engelbrecht was yellow-carded for collapsing a maul. Toulon made it count and regained the lead when No. 8 Facundo Isa barged over for a converted try. Five minutes later, scrum-half Baptiste Serin surprised the hosts with a quick tapped penalty going over the line and converting his try.
Toulon were reduced to 14 men after Yannick Youyoutte received a red card for a high tackle on Manie Libbok, Marius Domon followed suit just three minutes later with a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on. However, Toulon hung on and finally clinched the win.
The Stormers will travel to south-west London to face the Harlequins next Saturday, while Toulon return home for a visit from the reigning Vodacom URC champions, the Glasgow Warriors.
