It was a dream start to the Six Nations for France, as they crushed Wales 43-0 in the opening match of the tournament in Paris on Friday night.

The much talked about French scrumhalf Antoine Dupont made his comeback to the tournament, after missing last year’s championship to prepare for the Olympic Rugby Sevens tournament.

Captaining the side, he proved his worth once again by assisting in three tries, before being taken off at the beginning of the second half.

Les Bleus scored seven tries in the match and outclassed Wales in every aspect of the match. Wings Theo Attissogbe and Louis Bielle-Biarrey both crossed for two tries as the hosts led 28-0 at half-time.

Julien Marchand, Emilien Gailleton, and Gregory Alldritt also crossed the whitewash, with Thomas Ramos scoring the rest of the points with the boot.

The weak link in the French side on the night was flyhalf Romain Ntamack, who was shown a 71st-minute red card for a dangerous tackle on opposite number Ben Thomas.

“We adapted to the conditions in the rain and managed to get the bonus point, and a nice points average,” French coach Fabien Galthie told media after the game.

France, who have only won the Six Nations once since Fabien Galthie took over five years ago, will travel to England next week, where they will meet a very different opponent. Wales, on the other hand, will travel to Rome to take on Italy.

This was a seventh successive Six Nations loss for Wales and a seventh consecutive defeat against France.
