Manchester City are the English Premiership champions for the 2018/19 season after beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-1 yesterday during the final round of the league.

They managed to edge Liverpool to the title, who despite their 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers fell shot by just a single point.

City won the league by collecting 98 points throughout the season with 32 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses. They also recorded a goal difference of 72. Liverpool, in turn, ended on 97 points, with 30 wins, 7 draws, and just a single defeat.

The Citizens manager, Pep Guardiola, says that their intense title race with the Reds gives the achievement more credibility.

“To win the title we had to win 14 games in a row. This was the toughest title in all my career, by far.

“I have to say congratulations to Liverpool of course, thank you so much.

“Last season Manchester City made the standards. They helped to push us and to increase our standards from last season.

“To compete against this team pushed us to do what we have done. It's incredible, 198 points in two seasons.

“Normally if you get 100 points the tendency is to go down but Liverpool helped us to be consistent. It will be tougher but we will be stronger too.

“When you can win two in a row I have the feeling that next season we will come back and try to be who we are right now.”

For Manchester City, the focus now shifts to the FA Cup which will be played on Saturday when they take on Watford at Wembley in London.

Liverpool turns their attention to the UEFA Champions League final which will be played against the 4th placed Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on 1 June.
