The Soweto giants have confirmed the appointment of Josef Zinnbauer as the team's new head coach. The 49-year-old former German footballer has penned a three-year deal with the Buccaneers.

Rhulani Mokwena will, however, continue working as the interim coach until Zinnbauer’s work permit is granted.  Mokwena will return to his position as an assistant coach alongside Fadlu Davids once the Zinnbauer takes charge.

The Sea Robbers confirmed the appointment via a statement.

"It is a fine balancing act that goes beyond the all-important technical skills. A coach is tasked to win through others," said club chairman Irvin Khoza in a statement.

"His ability to keep the team focused, making them work in concert, with minimal lapses is an important requirement.

"I hope that Josef Zinnbauer is able to hit the deck running. I know I am fully representative of all the Orlando Pirates supporters in wishing him good luck."

Zinbbauer in his turn is relishing the opportunity to work at one of the biggest clubs in Africa.

"I welcome the opportunity to lead one of the prestigious clubs on the African continent. I hope under my lead, we are able to return the club to its winning ways."

After 13 league appearances in the 2019/20 season, Pirates, are currently in 6th with 13 points from 4 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses.

The Buccaneers' next league fixture will be on 21 December when they host Black Leopards at the Orlando Stadium.
