The Citizens drubbing of the Clarets comes at a heavy price─── MORGAN PIEK 10:35 Tue, 23 Jun 2020
The defending English Premiership champions, Manchester City, put some pressure on the current leaders, Liverpool, on Monday evening.
In a brilliant display of attacking football, the Citizens hammered Burnley 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
The win for Pep Guardiola’s charges means that they closed the gap on Liverpool to 20 points.
It is however virtually written in stone that the Reds will win their first league title in 30-years.
The big winner didn’t come without a heavy price after Sergio Aguero injured his knee during the game.
City manager, Guardiola, believes that Aguero’s season may be over due to the injury.
“It doesn't look good, he has been struggling with a problem in the knee, and now he has felt something so we will see tomorrow.
“It doesn't look good for the season.”
On Tuesday evening in the Premiership, the 2015/16 champions Leicester City will target three points when they host Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium.
On Saturday, the Foxes had to settle for a single point after playing to a 1-1 draw against Watford at Vicarage Road.
The Seagulls in their turn made a big statement with a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the American Express Community Stadium.
Foxes coach, Brendan Rogers, feels that tonight’s game will be a good build-up their following game which will be against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
At 21:15 it's a London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.
