Clinical Reds edge closer to the title─── MORGAN PIEK 09:36 Thu, 25 Jun 2020
In Wednesday night's English Premiership action, Anthony Martial became the first Manchester United player to score a league hat-trick in seven years to lead the Red Devils to a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
At Carrow Road, bottom-of-the-log Norwich City's woes continued with a 1-0 defeat to Everton, while at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Bournemouth 1-0, and at St. James' Park, Newcastle and Aston Villa played to a one-all draw.
At Anfield, a clinical Liverpool thumped Crystal Palace 4-0 to edge closer to the title.
Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp, was delighted with his team's performance which has put them within just two points of a first league title in 30 years.
“Wow, imagine if this stadium would have been full today, and all the people would have experienced it live. It would have been amazing.
“The boys played like everyone was in the stadium. They pushed themselves and the atmosphere on the pitch was incredible. Today was for sure the best counter-pressing game I saw behind closed doors.
“I liked it a lot. I liked the game so much. They are 4-0 up in the 87th minute, and four players are chasing one poor Crystal Palace player like it's the only ball in the world. Wonderful result, wonderful game. All good.”
Should Chelsea beat Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, Liverpool, will be crowned the champions.
Thursday nights at 19:00 Burnley host Watford at Turf Moor and at St. Mary's Southampton will be up against Arsenal.
At 21:15 it's over to London for the game between Chelsea and Manchester City.
