Blades edge the Wolves, Citizens thrash the Magpies─── 08:15 Thu, 09 Jul 2020
West Ham United are still in danger of English Premiership relegation after a defeat on Wednesday night, while Manchester United look to continue their purple patch and close in on the top four.
The Hammers were unable to climb away from the danger of relegation when they lost 1-0 to Burnley.
Sheffield United managed a 1-0 win over Wolves, while Liverpool beat Brighton 3-1 courtesy of a Mo Salah brace.
The final game last night saw Manchester City put on a football exhibition when they beat Newcastle 5-0, a game that saw Gabriel Jesus end his 10 game goal drought at the club.
Blades manager, Chris Wilder, lauded his team for their display against Wolves.
"I really enjoyed watching my team. Right the way through, it was a great effort.
"We were stretched in terms of numbers, but it was a committed performance and one that, ability-wise, had the hallmarks of a proper Sheffield United display.
"It's just reward for a positive second-half performance.
"We've had to defend really well but we wanted to carry a threat going the other way and I think we did."
The action continues on Thursday night when Everton host Southampton at Goodison Park, and Tottenham travel to Bournemouth, both those matches kick at 19:00.
The final match of the evening will see Manchester United looking to climb to within one point of Leicester City and the top 4 when they travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa at 21:15.
