This took the score to 2-2 and earned each team just a single point from the game.

The result sees United remain in 5th place.

United’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, says that it won’t get any easier for the club going forward.

“We have been on a great run, but it is not a matter of turning up for the game and being handed three points.

“The next three games are going to be tough as well. We didn’t expect anything else than what we got here today from Southampton.

“We knew that they are going to be positive and they were going to go for it.

“It was a good game of football, but unfortunately it ended with a conceded goal for us.”

The action in the English Premiership continues on Tuesday night, with Chelsea having a chance to put more points between themselves and fourth place when they host a relegated Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.

This match in London will kick-off at 21:15.
