Reds and City in a battle for Diego Carlos─── MORGAN PIEK 08:36 Thu, 30 Jul 2020
Although 2019/20 English Premiership has concluded, the champions Liverpool and the previous title holders, Manchester City, have entered another battle.
This time the two teams are fighting it out to secure the signature of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.
This comes following Dejan Lovren’s departure from Liverpool earlier in the week, and also due to the uncertainty of the centre-back John Stones’ future at City.
The contract of Stones will expire in 2020 and at this stage there is no word on whether or not there are negotiations for him to remain at the club.
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, is notorious for remaining mum when it comes to transfers, but it is believed that he is looking to bring Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, Schalke's Ozan Kabak, and Carlos to the Merseyside.
The Brazilian player who is rated as one of the best defenders in La Liga has a release clause in his contract, but whoever lands his valued signature will have to cough up £68m.
It is not just the Reds and City who are interested in the 27-year-olds service, it is believed that Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen also have him in their sights.
