Letlabika credits Celtic coaches for win over Chiefs─── MORGAN PIEK 13:43 Thu, 20 Aug 2020
The Bloemfontein Celtic defender, Wandisile Letlabika, has credited the coaching staff for their big 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday night.
Letlabika, who nearly scored a Xabi Alonso-style goal from 60 metres out, was rock-solid in the defence as usual and this made a big difference to the Phunya Sele Sele cause.
The win by Celtic has thrown the league wide open and has provided the Amakhosi with plenty of headaches.
Letlabika told OFM Sport that the coaching staff under the guidance of John Maduka has made a huge difference and they deserve the credit for the win.
“You know when you are playing against your former coach it is not an easy thing”, said the star defender.
“For us as a team, our aim is not to drop points. We still on the verge of also being relegated. Our aim was to just keep on pushing and instead of dropping a point, to rather come up with a point.
“The game against Chiefs gave us the boost we needed because we knew if they beat us they would win the league.
“Our training sessions and also the coaches helped us a lot as a team in terms of playing as a unit, and that is good.
“You know when you are playing against the giants like Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs, you always have that motivation.
“Our aim was to just go there and express ourselves. Each player in the team played to the best of their ability and they did a great job.
“Our coaches play a very big role. I will give credit to the coaches for this one. Personally I think that they did a great job. The likes of John Maduka, Simon Gopane and Ditheko Mototo all did a great job.
“We as a team we still have games to play. On Monday we play against AmaZulu, and our aim is to reach the top eight, so we are focusing on each and every game.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday evening it’s the Cape derby between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC at the Tuks Stadium, with kick-off at 18:00.
