A stoppage-time goal by Bienvenu Evanga saw the Clever Boys stun the Amakhosi 1-0.

But, the defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, blew a golden opportunity to take the outright lead with just two games to go, when they lost 1-0 to the giant killers, Baroka FC, in the final game of the weekend.

Baroka coach, Dylan Kerr, lauded the effort by his team to move out of the relegation zone.

“I asked them to fight at halftime, I asked them to scrap. I asked them to hang like dogs today. When we get the ball, keep it. They threw everything at us in the second half, but we defended like a unit.

“And again, the clean-sheet was more important but it’s fantastic for them. But I know what they can do week in and week out. But you know, it’s frustrating when they do it against the big teams.”

Downs coach, Pitso Mosimane, in his turn insisted that he was not aware of the result between Chiefs and Wits ahead of their match.

“I don’t know. I did not know the score because if you look at the game and your emotions, your mood changes to that game immediately. So I don’t know if they knew, I can’t know everything, probably they knew, you know players.”

In the other game on Sunday, Bloemfontein Celtic and Polokwane City played to a goalless draw.
