Mabena confident Celtic can beat Downs─── MORGAN PIEK 13:53 Fri, 11 Sep 2020
The Bloemfontein Celtic captain, Ndumiso Mabena, is confident that his team has what it takes to win the Nedbank Cup for the first time when they face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night in the final.
The league champions, Sundowns, are the overwhelming favourites to win the treble and they won’t be an easy opponent to roll over.
While the Brazilians did win a third straight league time, Celtic are unbeaten since football resumed last month.
Mabena says that Phunya Sele Sele’s style of play makes his job easier on the pitch.
“We are a team that likes to play the ball, where everyone always avails themselves on the field‚ and we have a high work-rate.
“The system we are using comes from the training ground, and there is a good understanding between the players because we know how the coaches want us to play.
“I know the system very well and most of us have been together for a while now‚ and that makes it easier for me to play where I am playing.”
The consistent performer for Celtic added that the Brazilians have a lot of experience, which has proven to be important in the past.
“Everybody knows they are highly experienced because of their continued participation in the CAF Champions League.
“They also have a good bunch of players, which makes them a very good team. We all saw their experience in the way they managed their league games to eventually catch Kaizer Chiefs in the league.
“They did what they had to do and they managed to win the league title. That is because of the vast experience they have.”
Saturday’s nights’ final at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 20:00.
