The turning point in the game came on the stroke of half time when Andreas Christensen was red-carded for the Blues.

Sadio Mané struck twice for the Reds in the 50th and 54th minute to seal the deal.

Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp, said that he was just as happy with the win over the London outfit, as he was a week prior following the season opener against Leeds.

“I don't know if I have to compare happiness. Last week I was very happy, this week I am very happy but for different reasons, maybe.

“I liked both games. Look, we win 2-0, could have scored more, didn't and then the game is open. Then we produce a penalty – I am not sure if I would have given it, to be honest, even from a completely neutral situation, but OK.

“Then Ali has to make another save [from Tammy Abraham].

“This is a proper team performance, everybody had to work hard, we did and we deserved the three points. I am overly happy with that.”

In some of the other results over the weekend, Crystal Palace stunned Manchester United with a 3-1 win, Brighton & Hove Albion thumped Newcastle 3-0, Tottenham Hotspur hammered Southampton 5-2.
