The Premier Soccer League club, Bloemfontein Celtic, has lodged an appeal with CAF following the sport’s world governing body, FIFA’s decision to impose a transfer ban on the club.

FIFA has slapped Celtic with a one-year transfer ban for failing to pay their former goalkeeper and captain, Patrick Tignyemb when he was axed.

The former Cameroonian international took Phunya Sele Sele to FIFA for unfair dismissal some two years ago.

The governing body for the sport locally, the South African Football Association (SAFA) stated that the matter has been referred to the Premier Soccer League.

"The South African Football Association has noted the sanction imposed by FIFA on Bloemfontein Celtic FC over what the club says is a labour relations matter involving one of its former players.

"The correspondence from FIFA has been referred to the PSL for the attention of the club as stipulated in the FIFA Regulations, with a request that the club provides background to the matter and indicate which steps they intend to take.

"SAFA will provide further information as and when it is received from the club and the League."

Meanwhile, Celtic will look to return to winning ways when they host Chippa United on Wednesday afternoon at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in Rocklands. Celtic is currently on a six-match winless streak in the league.

Kick-off for this match at the Slaughterhouse is at 17:00.
