The former Bloemfontein Celtic CEO, Khumbulani Konco, has confirmed that he has been retrenched.

Konco, who served Phunya Sele Sele for 20 years as a player and administrator, was retrenched on Tuesday after returning to work following a three-week suspension.

Konco represented Celtic as a player for three seasons, before serving as an administrator for 17 years.

Konco called a press conference this afternoon in order to clear the air following his shock retrenchment.

Konco says that only he was retrenched by the club following a round of consultations, and this left him shocked.

“What came out in the meeting is that the process came because of the challenges facing the club, of which they are well-documented, but when you look at the process and the end process, and what we know with regards to the retrenchment process, one can feel that the axe was looking at someone and only that person and the reason I say that is because in the consultation, some suggestions were given out and none were implemented and the letter came on the 15th of March that said you are retrenched and it was only me at that time.

“Remember, this whole thing came to me as a shock. I didn’t see it coming I need to be honest.

“I’ll have to sit down and consult before making my next move, but football is my life and one would always like to be in the football industry.

Recently Konco was also not re-elected to the Premier Soccer League board.
