The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, had the last laugh as his Al Ahly beat the Brazilians 2-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

The midfielder, Taher Mohamed, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, while Salah Mohsen sealed the deal for the Egyptians in the 90th minute.

Downs co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, says they expected a tough game in Cairo.

“Exactly as I expected, it was always going to be an intense kind of game.

“I believe that we played very well and we were very unfortunate not to score.

“I've never seen a team coming to Egypt to dominate Al Ahly. To see Al Ahly playing a counter-attacking game at home was also very interesting for me.

“But, this was the first half and the second half in going to be in Johannesburg.”

On Saturday the Downs will host 2nd leg at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Meanwhile, Kazier Chiefs, won their 1st leg against the Tanzanian outfit, Simba SC, 4-0. On Saturday they will battle it out in the 2nd leg at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
