Celtic earn important first away win─── MORGAN PIEK 09:58 Wed, 19 May 2021
Bloemfontein Celtic has finally broken their winless run on the road with their first Premier Soccer League away win of the season.
Celtic earned three points and put themselves out of contention for relegation with a 2-1 win over Chippa United in Mdantsane.
Raymond Mduduzi opened the scoring for Chippa in the 38th minute.
Neo Maema equalised in the 66th minute, before the captain, Ndumiso Mabena, fittingly scored the winner for Celtic on the eve of his 34th birthday.
Mabena says their win was worth more than three points.
“It was most definitely a very important game for us, and we see the win as being worth six points.
With the position that we are in, we have been struggling to get to 30 points on the log, and we got the three points that we need.
“We will take it one game at a time because we now have two 'cup finals' to play. It has not been easy but we are happy with what we have been able to achieve as a team.”
The matches between Swallows and Stellenbosch as well as Baroka FC and Tshakhuma FC ended in goalless stalemates.
