The head coach of the Soweto giants, Josef Zinnbauer, has announced that he will be stepping down from his role at Orlando Pirates.

This come mere days after the Buccaneers were eliminated from the MTN8 in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 defeat to Swallows on Saturday at the Orlando Stadium.

Zinnbauer was under fire from last season already and during the offseason there were reports that his days at Mayfair were numbered.

On Monday afternoon in a brief statement, Zinnbauer confirmed that he has tendered his resignation.

“I would like to thank the Chairman and management for the opportunity they have given me. Unfortunately, my time at the Club has come to an end.

“I have enjoyed my time here and would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the supporters.

“I have spent the last two years away from my family and for this reason, I have decided to hand in my resignation. I would like to wish the club and its supporters all the best for the future.”

Zinnbauer coached Pirates in 68 matches in all competitions over a two-year period. During this time, Pirates won 35 games, played to 20 draws and recorded 13 defeats.

The club is yet to name a successor for Zinnbauer.

Pirates open their 2021/22 Premier Soccer League campaign on Saturday when they host Stellenbosch FC at the Orlando Stadium.
