Broos calls for the use of VAR─── MORGAN PIEK 15:00 Tue, 07 Sep 2021
The Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has called for the introduction of video assisted referees (VAR) in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Despite South African having won last night's important qualifier against Ghana 1-0 at the FNB Stadium, the score line should have read 2-0.
Last night on the stroke of half-time the striker Percy Tau's perfectly legitimate goal was disallowed by the lineman who ruled him to be offside.
Broos said that they could been denied a crucial win.
"I think in such important games there has to be VAR.
“The goal could have decided or not have decided the game.
“If the goal of Percy Tau is a legitimate goal and imagine that the scores stayed 0-0 then we don't win.
So, in such important games, I'd like to have VAR.”
CAF is one of only three FIFA confederations that have not used VAR for World Cup qualifying.
