The Premier Soccer League has launched a new cup competition that will be in January. The DSTV Compact Cup will features four regional teams made up of players that are selected by the fans.

The fans will also be able to selected the coaches for each of the four teams and they will be able to control the in-game substitutions.

The PSL chairman, Irvin Khoza, said that fan interaction is important.

“This is yet another amazing innovation. It will be refreshing that the responsibility of team selection, technical team and name choice will reside with the fans. 

“The roles are now reversed, and we will come out better informed about the fans’ understanding of player chemistry through their team selections.”

The competition will feature two teams from the coastal PSL clubs, while there will also be two teams made up from the Inland PSL sides.

Coastal Group 1: AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows FC, Maritzburg United, Royal AM FC

Coastal Group 2: Cape Town City FC, Stellenbosch FC, Chippa United FC, Baroka FC (exception)

Inland Group 1: SuperSport Utd, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Marumo Gallants, Sekhukhune Utd

Inland Group 2: Orlando Pirates FC, Kaizer Chiefs FC, Swallows FC, TS Galaxy 

The tournament will be played on 22 and 29 January.
