Zwane wants to reignite Amakhosi winning culture─── MORGAN PIEK 07:58 Fri, 27 May 2022
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder, Arthur Zwane, has been named as the new Kaizer Chiefs head coach. Zwane has been acting as the interim coach for the Amakhosi following the axing of Stuart Baxter.
Zwane has come through the ranks at the Soweto giants over the course of 22 years. First as a player then taking charge of as a coach for the junior teams.
Dillon Sheppard will continue to serve as an assistant coach to Zwane.
Zwane said he wants to reinstall the winning mentality at the Glamour Boys.
“I have always been saying to those close to me - I told them eight years back that I’m working hard and spending sleepless nights to be a head coach that will be out to make the team win and not just to add numbers.
“One of the reasons I wanted to play for this team as a player was because of the winning culture and mentality. That is what inspired me and made me work hard to wear this jersey as a player. That was a dream come true.
“Here I am today. There are people seated here who know that I told them that one day I will be the head coach. I knew that there will be challenges. Every setback was a wake-up call and here I am today.”
Chiefs are currently 4th in the standing but could move down to sixth once the two remaining matches in the league are completed.
The Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, still have to play their fixtures against Royal AM (Friday) and SuperSport United (Monday).
