The Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, is of the belief that South Africa has the potential to become one of the best teams in Africa.
This comes after Broos was in hot water last week for questioning the standard of players in the country and that of the Premier Soccer League.
Broos has since issued an apology for his comments, while many agree with what he said.
Broos, who led Cameroon to AFCON glory, said that Bafana has the potential to be better than the Indomitable Lions.
“Things are different here in Africa, but I also do have African experience,” said Broos.
“I worked in Cameroon for two years. When I compare this country with Cameroon - the potential of South Africa is ten times more.
“Therefore, it is a pity that South Africa is not among the best footballing countries in Africa.
“This is something that we have to achieve in the next year.”
Bafana’s next AFCON qualifier is in September when they face Liberia at home at a venue yet to be confirmed.
